In short

Formula: calories left = weekly budget minus calories eaten so far. Divide by the number of open days to get your daily allowance. Example: 14,000 minus 5,700 (Monday to Wednesday) leaves 8,300 calories for 4 days, or about 2,075 per day.

How to use it

  1. Enter your weekly budget. Don't know it? Use the calorie deficit calculator.
  2. Enter the calories for each day that's already over.
  3. Leave future days empty. The calculator spreads the rest evenly across them.

Example

Sam has a weekly budget of 14,000 calories. Monday 1,850, Tuesday 2,100, Wednesday 1,750, so 5,700 in total. Thursday to Sunday leaves 8,300 calories, just over 2,000 a day. Dinner out on Saturday? Plan Thursday and Friday a little lighter.

Frequently asked questions

What if I'm already over my weekly budget?

Then the week is maintenance instead of a deficit. Don't punish yourself with very little food – just start the next week as normal.

Do I have to split the rest evenly?

No. Even is just the suggestion. If Saturday's going to be bigger, shift some calories there.
